Virginia DOT Achieving Significant Process and Quality Improvements with CADconform

July 24, 2006 (Houston, TX) — Altiva Software announces that longtime client Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) confirms significant improvements using CADconform, particularly in the area of managing their work flow and improving the quality of CAD data from its many sub-contractors.

VDOT has been bringing sub-contractors on board to submit all CAD design files to VDOT CAD standards, and CADconform is their enabling technology. Existing requirements dictate printed drawings conform to VDOT standards, but the capability to enforce standards in the design files was elusive prior to CADconform.

"When the design files conform 100% to our CAD standards, we achieve process efficiencies that save time and money throughout the full life cycle of VDOT assets," explains CAD Support Team Leader Steven Norris. "Using CADconform's conformance checking and reporting capabilities, we now have a way to quickly and accurately check for conformance on hundreds or thousands of drawings at once when received from a sub-contractor. Then we can accept the ones we know comply and quickly return non-conforming drawings to sub-contractors with specific direction for correction."

When VDOT sub-contractors use CADconform as well, the process efficiencies are even higher for both sides. In this model, the sub-contractors use CADconform to check and correct, then submit the drawings to VDOT knowing the drawings conform 100% to VDOT CAD standards – eliminating the previously iterative submission process.

So-Deep, Inc. (see Altiva press release "Altiva Software Announces Deal with So-Deep, Inc.") is an example of a VDOT contractor that took a proactive approach to implementing CADconform to improve their operational efficiencies and increase customer satisfaction with VDOT as well as other clients.

"Accuracy of drawings is paramount for the safe design, construction, operation and maintenance of facilities," states Altiva Software CEO Philip Hurlston. "In addition, we hear repeatedly from our many CADconform clients about the new efficiencies and cost-savings they have been able to achieve in their operations, and about the new ROIs they can now access by using their standards-conformed CAD data in their advanced systems, such as document management and geospatial information systems."
