Altiva Provides Fix for Windows/MicroStation Disappearing Toolbox Problem - Dock Doctor

September 04, 2014 (Houston, TX) — Various Altiva clients have reported issues with a recent Microsoft hotfix for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1. This update causes docked toolbars in MicroStation to completely disappear or appear blank. Bentley and Microsoft are reportedly working on the issue, but currently the only workaround provided is to uninstall the hotfix and delete the local UPF and docking XML files.

Altiva Software announces a new product to repair this issue. Dock Doctor is an MDL application to fix the problems caused by Windows Update Security patch KB2993651 in August 2014.

The application consists of only one icon on a toolbox, which should be docked somewhere on the MicroStation docking panel. When Dock Doctor detects an application toolbox or window docking, it forces a window reordering to ensure that all windows are on top of the docking panel. Clicking the icon will also force a manual refresh.

Dock Doctor is provided as freeware to the MicroStation user community by Altiva Software. Use this link to download the ZIP file for Dock Doctor and extract the contents as follows:

It will also need to be added to $(MS_DGNAPPS) so it starts automatically.

UPDATE - September 16, 2014
Microsoft has now released a hotfix for this issue. You can find more info and download the hotfix here.
